The Third SNRU International Conference on Cooperation for Development on the East – West Economic Corridor

The East - West Economic Corridor project is one of the economic - strategic road networks developed under the economic development plan of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The major purpose of the East - West Economic Corridor is to connect the western area of the Andaman Sea with the eastern area of the South China Sea. This Corridor is 1,500 kilometers in length. It starts from Burma and goes through Thailand’s Tak, Sukhothai, Pitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Kalasin and Mukdahan. It then leads to Lao People’s Democratic Republic at Savannakhet and Lao Bao and stretches into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at Dong Ha, Quang Tri, Hue, ending at the Vietnamese coast of Da Nang. This East - West Economic Corridor is linked to Road 13 of the North - South Economic Corridor at Savannakhet in Lao  People’s Democratic Republic.

The East - West Economic Corridor provides convenient and rapid travel, transportation and communications among Union of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The Corridor provides trade and investment opportunities leading to the positive changes for the people living on this route. Nonetheless, to bring about this regional progress, cooperation for development of this East - West Economic Corridor requires research studies and collaboration in diverse dimensions and forms.

Consequently, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University of Thailand; Quang Tri Province, Quang Tri Teacher’s College, Da Nang Province, Da Nang University, and Quang Binh University of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; plus Savannakhet Province of Lao People’s Democratic Republic have joined hands to host the 2nd International Academic Conference and Research Presentation On Cooperation for Development on the East - West Economic Corridor.  The aims of this conference are to establish awareness of the importance of cooperation that will impact on national development among the countries situated on the East - West Economic Corridor, and to keep informed and realize the progress, trends of research studies, and cooperation. The conference is further expected to benefit all nations in the region.
